COFFEE HUNTERS STORY

The quality of the Blue Mountain coffee beans is graded into No.1-3. In the 1980s, Blue Mountain No.1 needed to be bigger than screen-size 19. Nowadays, the criteria for Blue Mountain No.1 have been modified to include screen-sizes bigger than 17 in order to increase production volumes. However, Kawashima had decided from the beginning that the Blue Mountain coffee beans for the Grand Cru Café had to be bigger than screen-size 19. While tasting screen-sizes 17, 18 and 19 prepared by the producer, screen size 19 in particular made Kawashima smile from its outstanding flavor. Nevertheless, the coffee grown in Plot 4 from this farm with screen-size 18 had outstanding sweetness and body in its taste. It was just like Blue Mountain coffee from the past, when it was called “the gem of the Caribbean” . However, it could not become a Grand Cru Café. Thereupon, it was introduced to the “RESERVA” series.

【Flavor Profile】Strong sweetness and body but not as strong as Grand Cru Café. Exquisite balance lingering on the palate with the fragrant and sweet aftertaste. It is truly high-quality Blue Mountain coffee.

2020

The sweetness is elegant and beautiful with an aroma that is mellow and long-lasting. Each element is simple yet sophisticated combining into a beautiful ensemble like an orchestra. The umami-like sensation, similar to that in a broth, is unique to the Typica variety grown in the soil of the Blue Mountains.

2019

It possesses a variety of fruity aromas, like apples and apricots, accompanied by the aroma of kinako soybean powder. The bright flavor exudes gradually from the depths like the ripened tomatoes of midsummer and citrus fruits. The spicy hint of ginger makes a well-balanced aftertaste.

2018

The condensed flavor of dried persimmon and fig.leads to a sweet and mellow texture resembling a dessert wine. The taste makes it easy to picture bright, red fruits standing out in the green forest at the top of the mountains.

2017

Sweet and rich like dates and caramel. Its thickness and richness resemble jam and lingering on the finish.

2016

Sweet, macadamia nut flavor. Juicy acidity resembling grapefruit expands on the palate with a toasty aftertaste. Enjoy the change of flavor within one sip.
